Proposal

Freeform

Me and Charlie have decided to make a 5 minute long short film for our A2 coursework as this is what we chose to do at the end of our AS year in media. There have been some British films that have helped in the way that we will use camera angles, editing, and sound and these are such films as ‘This is England’, ‘Adulthood’ and ‘The bank job’ for better knowledge of the way British culture is portrayed in films.

The purpose of our short film is to give the audience something to think about after watching, which is the affects of drinking and taking drugs in young people. Our film will have a beginning, middle and an end which will flashback to the previous parts in the film. The film will be about a group of teenagers from the ages of 17-19 years old who have a normal night out which turns into night not to remember. The film will be in the British language but only in the stereotypical way teenager speak nowadays. They are a low class social group who believe it is cool to drink and take drugs, ignoring their education and enjoying life in a way they believe is best. The film is a Drama/Thriller genre with realism, violence, and an attitude of which youngsters of this day and age would use. It will use different settings for different parts of the film like houses, streets, parks and school. The target audience will be between 15 to early 20 year olds as we believe this a modern issue with today’s teenage society.

The target of this film is to illustrate how young people of today are influenced by the effects of alcohol and the connections it has. We will somehow manage to find our own time to work on the film over weekends and after school to get the right footage we need in our film.

Representation - Our short films characters are all teenagers and the plot of the story is all on drugs and alcohol violence, which is a mordern day stereotypical view on todays teenage society, so we thought that we would take this idea and relate to it in our film.

Institution - Our short film will be an all British film, whether it be cast, characters, set, location and language. We plan to stick to this so we could relate it to proper British media institutions across the country.

Values - This short film we will make has a lot of values which we think will make it very good. For one it shares the same kind of reality you would see in the outside world and relates to people who share the same problems and issues everyday or know people who have had bad experiences like the one in our film. The aim is to make people think.

Audiences - Our audience we feel we always be the people who they feel can benefit from seeing films like ours if it relates and they feel like they can see a piece of them or someone else in the act of another person. They will be the ones who is our media consumer for the short film.

Language - Our short film is constructed in a way that the audience can feel different emotions as they watch. Our film carries the sense of hate, deception and injustice, just the right type of feeling we will try to get through to the audience. We will use such things as facial expression, body language and gestures to get this message across.

Ideology - The whole aim of this film is to get an idea out to the audience and make them think, get them to relate. Take the whole teenage gang violence scenereo and turn into a reason why there really is gang violence. We take what we see in the papers and on television and put it into a little story because what our film shows is really happens.

Narrative - Our short film will have a beginning, middle and an end but not neccesarily in that order. We will first start the film off from the middle and take it to the end, then restart to the beginning up until the middle when it finishes. We are doing this to allaborate on one of the characters situation in the story to get an intense finish which the audience can relate to.

Genre - We have chosen to make our film a Drama/Thriller as it motivates the act of violence and suspence on a group of friends torn apart by a devious person. The fact it makes you think and its something some people can relate to makes it a drama, and also the fact the film gets you into it and interested to see what happens next makes it into a thriller.
